7 Tips to create mobile-friendly websites

With the latest algorithm update called Mobiledeggon released, it is completely unacceptable for Google to release any website that does not follow adjusting with mobile viewing. In fact, Google now punished those websites that are not mobile-friendly, and does not let it come to the top in SERPs – which is the worst thing to happen to your website.

The results are even worse. You would lose audience, ultimately losing sales of your services leading your business on a downward spiral. That being said, we don’t assume you yourself would, in your right senses, want any inconvenience for your audience. You want your audience to visit your website, have a comfortable experience and return back with a good feeling. A website that is not mobile-friendly makes it really hard for the visitor to navigate through the site. The buttons, text, titles, scrolls, images – everything has to be well-aligned on the phone’s screen so that whoever comes to visit your website does not feel messed up amidst the experience but in fact returns satisfied, holding the answers to his queries in his hands.

With that being said, our goal in this article is to jolt down all those points that will help you make a website, mobile-friendly.

  1. Avoid making two separate Websites

The reason behind keeping two websites could only be the fact that you want one to be mobile-friendly while keeping the one without being updated on the feature: mobile-friendly. If it is the laziness wearing you down, it is time that you cut it down and gather up your team to get the websites upgraded on this feature because now is the right time you do it before Google punished you for keeping a duplicate website. It is one thing to have your website punished for not being mobile friendly, but another to keep a duplicate version. Both the crimes, Google does not stand.

But what brought people to choose to keep two websites, instead of just one? What happened was, previously people realized that they need to design their websites in accordance to their mobile phone’s screen as well as the desktop. They would consider some part of the content suitable for desktop while some that fit perfectly well with mobile screens. Dividing the content on the types of screens only made situation undesirable for the viewers. Also, Google did not quite supported this strategy to go about the website design due to which websites are penalized.

2. Create Responsive Design

It is incredibly important for your websites to have a responsive design that allows the web-developers create a website that is accessible from every device without the trouble of inconvenient viewing. Responsive design is supposed to have flexible layout, images, and stylesheet media queries. Using such design only help the SEO marketers optimize your website/content on good ranks in SERPs. A responsive web-design helps the website learn which mode to set on a specific screen.  It means that responsive webdesign is crucial to make a mobile-friendly design.

3. Adding Viewport Metatag

Adding viewport metatag will enable the virtual area to render search engine to decide the size and scale of the content on the screen of the viewer. It is called the critical code by the web developers that makes the multi-device experience. This is extremely crucial for your website because without this code you website will never be able to manage the fitting of the screen, eventually causing blockade of your content from SERPs. Viewport metatags signals the browser about the size and fitting of the website on the screen. But that’s not all that a viewport does. You can add more configurations you can command your viewport to manage.

4. Using Specific Font and Button Sizes

There is a specific size that you need to give to your font and button. It has to be 14px for font size. You may think that you may be going over the line opting for 14px but it is quite suitable for a website as you do not want your viewer to feel the need of zooming in from every point the font looks smaller for a comfortable reading. But you can use 12px on a specific areas; for example, on the labels and tags, you can use this size and it would not matter as that is not an important information that your viewer wants to read. For the rest of the content, go for better size which is always the bigger one – not too big, neither too small. You also don’t want your visitor to press the wrong buttons which is why you need to keep the size in accordance to the tip of the finger.

5. Using High Resolution Content

This goes without saying that responsive websites are in a dire need of visually beautiful content as it ensures best experience to your audience. Lately, iOS devices have installed high-definition screens that require best quality content to enable best viewing for the visitor. This will help in avoiding pixelated or blurred images to appear on the screen – the biggest turn off for the visitor.

6. Removing Default Zoom

You screen layout will be messed up if you set up the auto-zoom for your website. It will cause confusion to the website as well as the engine to determine the size that fits well on a device. Either, they come off too small, or too big. This is a trouble especially for the content like images and navigations.

7. Using Videos on your Site

Videos are just the visual treat for people who don’t like to read but watch. In fact, videos work the best in every situation. No one comes to the website to read a detailed description. A video might do the service much better than words. For that matter, you can add YouTube videos to your website. The advantage of this practice is the fact that a video helps aligning the website to the screen as YouTube videos already have the embedded code to bring a responsive result. This saves you from doing the endeavor of making your site mobile-friendly when YouTube has already got that for you.
